The Limousin region, nestles on the western slopes of the Massif
Central and offers the visitor and abundance of unspoiled
countryside to enjoy. Crossed by many rivers and lakes, the
region has lots of activities for water lovers -
fishing, canoeing, sailing and windsurfing are just some
sports to enjoy. Limousin is also famous for its
"Limoges"
enamel and porcelain, and tapestries from Aubusson. The area
is very fertile and is a well known horse - breeding
region.
Auvergne is
dotted with castles, historic ruins and walled villages. There
are a multitude of
stately homes and fortresses to visit, and plenty of 16th
and 17th century manors and chateaux, including the "Versailles" of
Auvergne the Parentignat, which houses beautiful tapestries,
antiques and paintings.
This
region of France is scattered with the remnants
of extinct volcanic peaks, beautiful mountains and sparkling
lakes. From Auvergne's capital, (Clermont-Ferrand), enjoy
stunning views from the sacred mountain of
Puy-de-D'ocircme, which takes in a fascinating 20-mile long
stretch of 60 volcanic peaks.
